Has been optimizing the IBM T42. Disabling a number processes and services at startup, from 47 to 22 processes. Now able to boot within a minute, shutdown with 15 secs. Install all my programs and browsers. Mainly, to do and tweak whatever it is necessary to burn-in the hardware, and getting ready for Gentoo installation.
I returned the IBM T42 to the eBay seller. Its is faulty, and the screen always freeze. I need him to repair or replace another working set. No negative feedback to the seller, as I sees that he is responsible and can be trusted. Will follow up and see how it goes..
I have collected the IBM T42 that i have bought from eBay. Its looks new, the keyboard is clean, with no stained marks on every letter printed. functions looks ok to me. I have also disabled a few startup, to speed up the loading during boot. Works fine, with reduced shutdown time to 25secs. This seller has given 7 days refund warranty. so will continue to test it out, to see if there is any hardware issues.
